Since the Parkland shooting in February, many white families have been showing their support for gun reform. But will this be enough to make a dent in school shootings? Students of color are calling on white parents to prioritize racial justice over guns

Melinda D. Anderson, a writer, tweeted the day after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 22 years in prison for killing George Floyd, saying it “must’ve been a huge relief for many white liberals who can now exhale, inconspicuously remove BLM from their social media profiles, and spend their money on normal summer pastimes rather than on antiracist nonfiction they never reread.”

Derek Chauvin’s sentence must have come as a great relief to many white liberals, who can now sigh, delete BLM from their social media accounts invisibly, and spend their money on regular summer activities rather than anti-racist literature they’ll never read. Hello and good morning. 🙂

— @mdawriter (Melinda D. Anderson) 26th of June, 2021

The majority of white Americans are mainly spectators in today’s racial justice movement. What exactly is the issue? Police brutality is on the rise. Who is to blame for this? Derek Chauvin, other white cops, and/or police unions What is expected of the majority of white Americans? Anti-racist nonfiction choices in our book groups, angry social media postings, yard posters.

It’s easy to condemn brutal racial injustice from afar, but it’s obviously not going to be enough to undo the more subtle, deep-seated racist systems that shape American life. This is most evident in our schools, where racial and socioeconomic segregation persists, even in areas where white liberals take pleasure in supporting a broad range of racial justice issues.

Courtney E. Martin, author and activist, recounts her experience of attempting to walk her white parents’ talk on racial justice in her new book, “Learning in Public: Lessons for a Racially Divided America from My Daughter’s School.”

Last week, I published a review for the Washington Post in which I said:

Martin noticed that the kids at their neighborhood school, Emerson Primary, seemed to be nearly completely Black and brown — even as the area grew more white — when her eldest daughter, Maya, started elementary school. It turned out that the majority of her demographic friends had wrangled places for their children in whiter, richer schools in different areas of Oakland. Some lobbied school authorities until they were admitted to more privileged public institutions; others paid $30,000 per year to attend a neighboring private school that prided itself on its progressive ideals and teaching. Their enthusiasm for variety waned at the schoolhouse door, as it did in so many other communities.

“Where did the majority of White youngsters attend school?” Martin is perplexed. “I attended to my local school in the 1980s. Find out where you belong. There was no hassle. I’d never heard of the term’school choice.’

Where did the majority of white children attend school?

“Learning in Public” is an exploration of the political, cultural, social, economic, and other institutions that lie underneath that question. Who gets to plant what and where? Why are our communities so divided? Is selecting a neighborhood a particularly harmful kind of school choice? Is it true that gentrification in mainly Black and brown metropolitan areas leads to school integration, and that this is always beneficial for the children in such communities?

Martin shows that delving further into the origins of segregated neighborhood schools reveals a wealth of information. To begin with, academics and authors like as Ta-Nehisi Coates, Richard Rothstein, and Tim DeRoche have convincingly shown that American segregation — both of neighborhoods and the schools allocated to them — is mainly the result of deliberate governmental policy. Racial housing segregation was formalized into zoning regulations by local governments. Local governments were “redlined” as hazardous locations for mortgage financing, and racially discriminatory covenants were allowed to be put in place, preventing non-white families from buying homes in certain regions.

So, no matter how natural neighborhood schools seem to be, the site of each child’s “planting” is usually determined by a complex set of structural factors that decide which families have access to which homes in which areas. Excessively affluent white children are not born into mostly white exurban areas by accident. They’re there because of their families’ intergenerational riches — and their families’ ability to navigate long-standing housing rules that preserve that money. The unreflective appreciation of these deep, historical, systemic biases favoring the affluent is best characterized as privileged excitement for local schools.

Nonetheless, in recent years, a large number of white families have followed the regionalization of economic opportunity into a small number of U.S. metro areas, complicating rather than bucking those biased policy structures. Martin’s book delves into the tense conflict that arises when gentrifying white families undertake the task of desegregating urban areas and run across manifestations of American educational inequity in their new surroundings. (Spoiler: their excitement for varied urban areas does not necessarily extend to their diverse new urban neighborhood schools.)

In a time of gentrification, school integration is more important than ever.

“Learning in Public” considers the ramifications of this period in American city gentrification, a period that may put fresh strains on long-standing attempts to promote educational equality via school integration. On the one hand, the present offers a window of opportunity: when more highly educated, affluent, and frequently white families move into metropolitan areas of color, it becomes much simpler for school administrators to accommodate diverse enrolment. Schools may use the increased closeness of kids from a variety of backgrounds to coordinate school desegregation as communities diversify. Unlike many previous initiatives, this new environment does not need multi-school district coordination agreements or major new school transportation networks. There are several groups of students living in close proximity to one another. All that is left is to assist them in learning together.

Gentrification, on the other hand, is essentially a process in which affluent families use social and material capital to gain more of both. While gentrification often results in an inflow of public and private investment, most communities struggle to guarantee that these new resources reach long-term inhabitants. Indeed, when the presence of highly educated, affluent, typically white families drives up the cost of living in a community — especially local property costs – low-income people or families of color are often displaced. Few fair results could be anticipated from such a fundamentally inequitable procedure.

Furthermore, even if gentrification eliminates physical proximity barriers to school desegregation, the practical divide between living and studying together remains enormous. In gentrifying areas, privileged families often use their financial and social advantages to secure racially and/or socioeconomically separated school settings for their children. This dynamic manifests itself in a variety of ways. For example, when a community gentrifies, its allocated neighborhood school may be gradually “colonized” by privileged children and families until less-affluent families can no longer afford to live within the campus’ enrollment zone. Alternatively, wealthy families may use current choice mechanisms to obtain places in elite magnet schools, private schools, gifted and talented programs, or non-neighborhood public schools for their children.

At a time when urban white families are demonstrating renewed enthusiasm for the cause of racial justice, it’s time to question whether they’re ready to go beyond talking about it and start living it. There is a lot to do. Local officials may follow Minneapolis’ and other cities’ example and change zoning rules to make it simpler to construct additional urban housing. Education authorities may extend public school choice programs with diversity objectives that help families integrate and decouple school attendance from their ability to afford housing in certain regions. White, affluent urban families, maybe most importantly, can incorporate public schools as part of what it means to fully integrate into their diverse new neighborhoods.

My cat, Lily, is the best pet ever. She’s so purrfect and cute. I love her to bits!

The “my pet cat essay 300 words” is an essay written in simple English that discusses my pet cat and its personality. The essay is for students and children.

Cats are domestic animals that are often kept as pets by humans. Following the dog, most people choose to have a cat as a pet, and many humans had cats as pets about 10,000 years ago.

Cats are the most well-known and trustworthy creatures, and they are the kind of animals that like playing with humans. As a result of their friendly character, most people choose to have a cat as a pet.

Kittens are the kittens of cats, and they are extremely lovely to look at as these creatures are, and the sound they produce is also quite wonderful to hear. Cats come in a variety of breeds and are cherished as pets by many people.

My Cat as a Pet

My house includes two pets: one is a dog, and the other is a cat. My cat is a Persian cat named Misty, and she is a Persian cat with long hair and a very soft body that is a pleasure to touch.

Her cheeks are plump, and she has tiny round ears, and the sound she makes is extremely lovely to hear, since it brightens our day. She is now five years old, and she came to live with us when she was only two months old, as a gift from a friend to my sister.

Our parents first refused to allow us to have a cat as a pet since we already had a dog, but after some convincing and numerous pleas, they agreed to keep Misty with my parents. Although my parents are mainly scared of cats and do not play with Misty much, my sister and I do.

She is extremely attractive to look at, and she obeys our every command. She also plays with our dog, and the two of them play together like a close buddy.

Persian cats are often extremely attractive, and ours is no exception. Her white long hair is very attractive, and I brush her once a week to keep her clean and neat, which is why she seems to be more attractive.

Misty, who mainly eats fish but also eats a variety of meals and enjoys drinking milk, has her own house.

We like spending time with them since she has become an inseparable part of our family. We also take them to parks and shopping, and they are extremely well behaved, so it doesn’t seem tough to bring her along on vacations.

It seems to be very pleased and joyful throughout our vacations, as we enjoy her company. Cats are a highly attractive pet animal and a very playful animal that enjoys playing with its owners and constantly tries to make them smile.

The US has been calling for more gun control in the wake of a new bill introduced by Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott. Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to sell AK-47s and other weapons that are banned in Russia, but still legal worldwide on his website.

The “top 10 russian guns” is a list of the top ten most popular Russian guns. The list includes AK-47, Makarov, and more.

Russian mercenaries have arrived in Mali, according to European countries, establishing a new front in the conflict with the West at a time when Moscow is massing military troops around Ukraine.

After failing to quell an Islamist insurgency in Mali, French soldiers abandoned a post in Timbuktu earlier this month as part of a military retreat.

Foreign fighters “can only worsen the security situation in West Africa,” according to a French-led coalition of European states that have assisted in the war against al Qaeda in Africa.

The European nations, which included the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy, accused Russia of giving material support for the deployment and urged Russia to “return to responsible and constructive activity in the area.”

The Kremlin has said that it is unaware of any Russian military presence in Mali and that it has no ties to them.

This week, a Kremlin spokeswoman stated, “They may well have interests there.” “But, once again, none of this has anything to do with us.”

The Malian arrangement with Wagner Group mercenaries, which Western sources claim costs Bamako $10 million each month, is part of Russia’s desire to expand its influence on the continent at a low cost to the Kremlin.

The firm is said to be owned by a person connected to Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the US. Wagner has sent soldiers from the Central African Republic to Syria in the hopes of profiting on local agreements to mine natural gas and diamonds.

The situation in Mali reflects a dilemma that Western powers are confronted with as they withdraw from or avoid conflicts in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and parts of Africa: mercenaries, particularly from Russia, are increasingly stepping in to protect weak governments from radical Islamists and other insurgents.

“Vacuums irritate nature. As a result, the Russians are attempting to fill the void,” claimed Erik Prince, the founder of the American mercenary outfit Blackwater, which has previously worked for the US military in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Officials in France think the Malian government engaged Wagner as a bargaining chip in order to postpone conducting elections and maintain power.

Newly resurgent guns-for-hire are giving governments eager to utilize them to defeat foes and spread influence a tactical edge. Turkey has sent Syrian troops under its authority to engage in the battles in Libya and Azerbaijan. In the savage civil conflicts in Libya and Yemen, Middle Eastern nations have mobilized proxy armies. Nigerian mercenaries were deployed to fight Boko Haram rebels.

Mercenaries and new tools like inexpensive attack drones are likely to be low-end features of future battles, despite the fact that the US and its allies are investing massively in high-end technology to oppose China and Russia, ranging from aircraft carriers and submarines to sophisticated missiles.

Battles “will be waged on the perimeter with organizations like Wagner,” according to Sean McFate, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, a Washington think tank.

Private armed forces harken back to a time when leaders exploited them to serve their own political and financial goals. In the 18th century, the East India Company, which was backed by London, recruited armed troops to help it grow into a commodities behemoth.

After the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Pentagon engaged security firm Blackwater to conduct specialized support jobs, such as protecting officials and sites, to ease the pressure on soldiers. Wagner, according to US and European sources, is a stooge for Russia’s Defense Ministry, which is employed to expand the Kremlin’s control.

Mercenaries, like drones, make dangerous engagements more accessible. They are less costly than a standing military and, more crucially, simpler to deny, which is vital for governments seeking to avoid direct confrontations and military losses while flying national flags.

In Mali, France has spearheaded a years-long military campaign against an Islamist insurgency, with logistical and intelligence help from the United States. However, due to exhaustion from the effort and displeasure with military coups in the nation, Paris plans to reduce its personnel.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the man named by the US and European governments as the owner of the Wagner Group, has denied any ties to the company; he appeared in St. Petersburg in 2016.

According to Western security sources, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the guy named by US and European countries as Wagner’s owner, dispatched representatives to Bamako this summer after France said it would decrease its military presence in the area. Officials reported that geologists associated with Wagner quickly followed, inspecting possible gold-mining concessions in the al Qaeda stronghold of Mopti in central Mali. According to authorities, the first deployment consists of around 300 Russian mercenaries.

Mr. Prigozhin has denied any link to Wagner on several occasions. “The questions you ask speak of the chronic insanity that can be witnessed in the government agencies of the so-called Western world,” he stated via his holding company’s spokesperson in response to inquiries regarding the Mali operation.

On Dec. 15, State Department spokesman Ned Price denounced the proposed deployment, saying it would take funds away from the Malian military and public sector. The mercenaries “will not bring Mali peace, but instead further destabilize the nation.”

According to Blackwater founder Mr. Prince, Russia initially considered forming a private military contractor a decade ago. He claims he went to Moscow at the request of a Russian businessman and ended up shooting with the head of Russia’s elite Alfa special forces at an indoor firing range.

Mr. Prince said, “They asked me to come and create a center to teach veterans to do abroad security jobs.” He stated he went to see what was going on but had no intention of joining up.

In 2014, mercenaries hired by Kremlin-connected businesspeople assisted in the defeat of Ukraine’s army and the formation of two self-proclaimed republics in Ukraine’s east. Wagner fought in Syria before extending to Africa, according to European security authorities, and was supported by state catering contracts and others with firms linked to Mr. Prigozhin.

After confrontations over cybercrime, ambassador expulsions, and a migration crisis in Belarus, a military buildup near the Ukrainian border is straining relations between Russia and the United States. The government offered Wagner affiliates mining concessions in return for military backing when France withdrew its military deployment from the war-torn Central African Republic in 2016.

According to authorities, the organization is also engaged in diamond smuggling in the nation and formerly operated the country’s customs, collecting half of the proceeds.

Wagner has had a number of setbacks. Several Wagner militants were killed by US soldiers in Syria in 2018 while trying to take control a gas facility. According to Western and African sources, Wagner was recruited by Mozambique the next year to smash an Islamic State offshoot, but was forced to flee when some of its men were seized and executed by the militants.

The United States has been more cautious, refusing to privatize its military efforts. Mr. Prince was able to find work in Afghanistan. He recruited privately-funded former special soldiers when the US withdrew from Kabul.

He claims to have assisted in the evacuation of hundreds of Afghans, including athletes and judges, via land. His role has been verified by others engaged in Afghan exfiltration activities after the US exit.

The first Christmas on Main Street in downtown Fort Wayne was a huge success. The site served as the home for more than just holiday spirit and decor this year, but also included healthful activities such as music and storytelling that are popular with children.

The event was sponsored by the Templeton Chamber of Commerce.

TEMPLETON, N.Y. — On Saturday, Dec. 18, throngs of people walked up and down Main Street in Templeton to take part in the first annual Christmas on Main Street. The event was sponsored by the Templeton Chamber of Commerce.

“Our event began as a brainstorming session to see what we might do to support Templeton’s company.” As a result, we decided that a simple Main Street Christmas event would be enjoyable. “There will be no fee to anybody,” stated Kathy Nutt, Executive Co-Chair of the Templeton Chamber of Commerce.

The gathering took up a considerable portion of Templeton’s downtown area. Starting at the American Legion Hall on 8th Street, where you may see Santa, dig for gold with the Central Coast Gold Prospectors, and browse the artisan fair.

We’re going to get through this together, Atascadero

“It’s wonderful to be here in Templeton for the first Christmas [event] of the year. “Everyone is having a fantastic time,” Templeton Lion’s Club member Cynthia Everett remarked. Inside the Legion Hall, who had a booth?

Thousands of Christmas lights were strung across both sides of Main Street, and visitors flocked to see what Templeton has to offer. Almost every company took part in some fashion, from hot chocolate and popcorn to kid-friendly activities. There’s even an emoji scavenger hunt!

As the temperature dropped and it began to grow dark, an impromptu procession of pick-up trucks, UTVs, golf carts, and motorbikes began circling up and down the street in typical Templeton manner.

“Hopefully, it [Christmas on Main Street] becomes bigger every year.” “I’m extremely happy to have something to do [for Christmas],” said Rob Garcia, a partner with Corvus Wealth Advisors. “We had a fantastic 4th of July; we should start planning a fantastic Christmas party.”

The entertainment was supplied by Main Street Dance, who set up a stage outside Griff’s Pizzeria and Bistro on 2nd Street. The performances were seen by large audiences.

Vicki van den Eikhof of the Templeton Drama Boosters was also present. Cotton candy will be distributed to the community in return for contributions to the theater department. “We’re helping the Templeton High School Drama Department raise funds, and Martinelli’s Landscape Construction is auctioning off a Christmas tree for us as well.”

The Christmas Tree Auction included nine local companies. After the tree was sold to the highest bidder, they each chose a non-profit to receive all of the earnings. And the winner received a completely decked Christmas tree!

“We decided to conduct the tree auction so that we could contribute back to the local non-profits,” Nutt said. “We’re extremely happy to be not just celebrating but also giving back to our community.”

Elizabeth Covert, Aletha Ens, Sarah Magalet, and Jennifer Ecklund were on the Christmas on Main Street committee (together with Nutt).

Let’s hope that Christmas on Main Street returns next year!

CES will go on as an in-person event, but how? Well, the trade show is moving to Las Vegas and now includes a pop up village called CES Unbound. How does this fit into the global trend of virtual reality?

CES 2022 will go on as an in-person event. This is because the show’s organizers want to preserve its history and tradition.

The event organizers confirmed to Axios that CES 2022 would be an in-person event.

The announcement states, “Thousands of entrepreneurs, corporations, journalists, and purchasers are planned to visit to Las Vegas.” “Top officials from the federal, state, and international governments will be in attendance.”

The event’s organizers also said that “several thousand more registrations” had been added since late last week.

Despite the Omicron COVID-19 variation, this is the case. It currently accounts for the bulk of new COVID-19 cases in the United States, where the number of cases has risen dramatically in recent weeks.

Amazon, Meta, Twitter, and Pinterest have all said that they would not attend CES 2022. T-Mobile isn’t canceling the event, but it will drastically reduce its presence.

Samsung has yet to comment on whether it would follow suit. However, a smaller on-site delegation is being considered. Qualcomm, OnePlus, and HTC have all said that they will attend the event.

Several media outlets also chose not to attend in person. Engadget, The Verge, CNET, TechCrunch, IGN, Gizmodo, and TechRadar are among them. The event will be covered by all of the aforementioned sites from afar.

Several safety features will be present at CES 2022, according to the organizers. Two fast tests will be administered to each attendance, as well as increased ventilation and broader aisles. In addition, all attendees must be immunized and wear masks at all times.

CES 2022 will be held in Las Vegas from January 5 through January 8.

The upcoming United States Election will be the most highly-watched event in modern American history, and is always a crucial topic for discussion. However, there are many different opinions about who should win which of the top 10 slots. This article ranks them based on their past voting record, current poll numbers and other factors that explain why they might have a chance at winning come 2021.

The “Nba mvp race 2022” is a question that will be answered in the next few years. The top 10 candidates for the 2021 edition of the NBA MVP race are as follows. Read more in detail here: nba mvp race 2022.

The league as a whole is seeing a drop in scoring. Recent rule changes have permitted for more physical play, and virtually every head coach has emphasized perimeter defense. In general, there are fewer free throw attempts per game and a significant reduction in three-point effectiveness compared to previous year.

Scoring increases TV ratings and sells seats. Nothing beats witnessing LeBron James, who weighs 250 pounds, slash into the lane like a 6-2 point guard for a monster slam. Similarly, fans flock to see Stephen Curry’s 40-foot step-back bombs in person.

Still, defense is in for 2021-2022, putting the league’s greatest defenders to the center of the discussion.

The top-10 nominees for the Defensive Player of the Year Award will then be ranked.

Mentions of Merit

Allen, Jarrett

The King James Version of the Bible

This season, defensive center Jarret Allen has been outstanding. His Cavaliers have the second-best defensive rating in the league, and he’s allowing 14.4 field goal attempts per game while completing 44.6 percent of his assignments. Only a year ago, Allen’s Cleveland team was ranked 25th in the league in terms of defense. A new face in Ohio (more on him later) has aided in the transformation of the Cavs into the defensive powerhouse we’ve witnessed throughout the fall and early winter, displacing Allen from our top-10.

Caruso, Alex

NBC Sports contributed to this article.

In DEFRTG, the Chicago Bulls are ranked eighth in the NBA, and Alex Caruso is their top overall defender. Despite playing roughly half as many minutes as the other top-5 players, he leads the league in thefts per game and fourth in total deflections. However, the issue is a lack of playing time. Caruso is a bench player who plays fewer than 30 minutes every game, which drops him off of our rankings.

Paul George is number ten.

Featured image courtesy of USA TODAY Sports

Paul George is a classic defensive wing, weighing in at 6-8 220 pounds. Throughout his career, he has routinely taken on his team’s most difficult perimeter defensive assignment, and he has performed well.

This year is no exception.

Because to his propensity to bother opposition wings one-on-one, PG-13’s Clippers rank fourth in defensive rating. He’s suffocating his assignments, resulting in a 42.3 hit percentage from the field, and he’s defending 11.6 attempts per game, one of the league’s top numbers among wings.

Paul George takes satisfaction in being regarded as one of the world’s best two-way players. Because his running buddy, Kawhi Leonard, is absent due to injury this season, George is carrying a heavier offensive burden than he has in the past. Despite this, the former Fresno State standout continues to attack every defensive play. PG-13 wants to shut down his assignment, whether he’s defending LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, or Donovan Mitchell.

The Clippers lack a real playmaker on offense (starting PG Reggie Jackson is averaging 4.1 APG), and things have frequently turned into a slog on the enjoyable side of the ball for the Clippers, who are ranked 24th in 2021-2022. The defense has helped propel LA’s other club to a 16-14 record, good for fifth place in the Western Conference, thanks to Paul George’s zeal.

Paul George should move up our Defensive Player of the Year rankings if the Clippers finish in the top four in the West.

Deandre Ayton (nine)

For the Phoenix Suns, Deandre Ayton has been a monster in the middle. He’s one of the few big men in the NBA with the size to defend the rim and the quickness to stop off drives in the lane by stepping out on the perimeter off a switch.

Ayton is contesting 12.7 shots per game (4th in the league), demonstrating his defensive prowess, but more importantly, he’s getting a hand up on shooters outside the arc 3.1 times a game, a significant improvement over last season.

Ayton isn’t a big center who can be game-planned against at 6-11 250 pounds. He can cover guards off a failed pick and roll or handle a wing in the mid-range with ease.

Deandre Ayton has helped the Suns put together one of the league’s finest defenses this season, making Phoenix management wish they had given him a premium deal during the summer.

Jimmy Butler (#8)

Jimmy Butler’s defensive numbers for the years 2021-2022 are comparable to Draymond Green’s; they aren’t terrific. Butler has allowed his assignments to shoot 0.8 percent better than their regular average in the early parts of the season, and according to Cleaning the Glass, the Heat are 0.7 points poorer per 100 possessions with him on the floor.

Also, like with Draymond Green, the figures do not reflect Jimmy Butler’s complete defensive value.

Overall, the Miami Heat are ranked 11th in defensive rating and third in points allowed per game (103.8). Even yet, given that their do-it-all-on-defense center, Bam Adebayo, has been sidelined for over two weeks, it’s evident that their effort on the less enjoyable end has been superb, and Jimmy Butler is the Heat’s motivator.

He has the second-highest usage rate on the squad, at 27.4 percent, and the highest point per game average (22.8). Despite his extensive offensive duties, Butler plays aggressively on every defensive possession. When his teammates watch him hustling through the discomfort in his legs by leaping out to open three-point shooters or bodying up big players in the lane, they want to do the same.

Jimmy Butler’s mentality, switchability, and willingness to man up every team’s best perimeter option propel him into our top-10, as well as giving the Heat a chance to win every night.

This season, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been the NBA’s greatest surprise. They were a lottery club last year, and most analysts predicted that they would struggle again in 2021-2022. Instead, they’re in fourth place in an Eastern Conference that has suddenly become deep and skilled. Even more astonishing, they’ve put together a 19-12 record against the league’s fifth hardest schedule.

Almost all of their progress has come from the less enjoyable end. Last season, the Cavaliers were one of the league’s weakest defensive teams, ranking 25th out of 30 teams in defensive rating. This season, Cleveland has turned the script, rising to second in DEFRTG.

How did the Cleveland Cavaliers move from being a bad defensive team to a top-five defense with no roster turnover?

The lynchpin has been Evan Mobley, the lone rookie on our list.

For a huge guy, the former Trojan is long, fluid, and surprisingly nimble. He also grinds as hard as anybody in the league.

Mobley leads the NBA in disputed shots, the most important hustling metric. He’s running around the floor like a lunatic, swarming three-point shooters, wing mid-range shots, and all rim drives. He’s challenging 13.2 shots per game on average, and he’s motivated his teammates to give it their best on defense.

For years to come, Evan Mobley should be a staple in these Defensive Player of the Year lists.

Myles Turner, No. 6

9 Seconds, 8 Points

Myles Turner leads the NBA in blocks with 87, 21 more than Rudy Gobert, who is in second place. Turner is 15th in the league in disputed shots per game, at 10.4, and holds his assignments to a decent 47.1 field goal percentage.

When looking at advanced data, his on/off splits are among the best in the league. When Myles Turner is on the field, the Pacers’ defense improves by 3.1 points, putting him in the 68th percentile of all big players in the NBA.

Turner’s Defensive Player of the Year credentials has one obvious flaw. His Pacers have the poorest defensive rating in the NBA (108.5), the lowest of any player on our top-10 list. Turner isn’t flanked by mediocre defenders like Rudy Gobert or Anthony Davis, however. Caris LeVert, Malcolm Brogdon, T. J. McConnell, and Chris Duarte guard Indiana’s perimeter, and all four are capable defenders.

Myles Turner is a fantastic help defender who is more than capable of cleaning up his teammates’ rim miscues. His issues stem from his one-on-one coverage, as he is often devoured by larger players in the lane. Giannis had a field day against Turner in recent defeats to the Bucks and Timberwolves, scoring 25 points on 10 for 15 shooting, while Karl-Anthony Towns scored 32 points against him.

Turner’s ability to change double-digit shots per game puts him in sixth place, but he’ll have to focus on shutting down his opponents if he wants to climb up higher.

Mikal Bridges, No. 5

Mikal Bridges and Deandre Ayton are the only two players in the top ten on our list.

Mikal Bridges has become as the league’s finest perimeter defender. Every night, he takes on the opposition team’s top guard or wing, restricting them to a dreadful 39.9% field goal percentage.

39.9% from the finest offensive perimeter weapons in the league!!!!!

He’s restricted James Harden to a 4 for 15 shooting performance this season, and he’s stopped MVP leader Stephen Curry from having his worst high volume shooting night ever (4 for 21).

Bridges’ Suns colleague Chris Paul, a famous defender in his own way, had this to say about the ballhawk:

“It doesn’t matter whether Mikal plays another game this year; he has to be on that All-Defensive team.” Mikal, every night, every night, man, Mikal, Mikal, Mikal, Mikal, Mikal, Mikal, Mikal, Mik Everything.”

Phoenix is ranked third in defensive rating and third in opponent points per 100 possessions, with a score of 104.4.

Mikal Bridges has demonstrated this season that he can lead his team to win by denying the other side’s greatest perimeter option. In his ability to lock down his guy on his own, he reminds me of a great cover corner in football (think Deion Sanders). When Bridges is on the floor, his teammates don’t have to worry about Curry’s gravity or Doncic’s initial stride in the lane, allowing them to concentrate on their task.

Anthony Davis, No. 4

courtesy of USATSI

The Lakers’ perimeter defense was reduced early in the season due to injuries to LeBron James, Talon Horton-Tucker, Trevor Ariza, and Kendrick Nunn, making the Utah Jazz’s so-so collection of wings appear like all-world defenders. Frank Vogel has had to depend on defenders like Carmelo Anthony, Wayne Ellington, and Malik Monk (who has really improved on defense).

During the months of October and November, it seemed as though AD was responsible for protecting the whole side of the court on his own. He never pounded his feet or hung his head. He plunged in and gave it his all.

Anthony Davis and the Lakers have climbed the defensive ranks as reinforcements have come to assist.

Consider the Lakers’ past 10 games:

The Lakers are fourth in the NBA in defensive field goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to shoot 42.8 percent from the floor.

With a defensive rating of 104.2, the Lakers are fourth in the league.

In terms of opponent three-point field goal percentage, the Lakers rank 6th in the league (33.5 percent ).

After all the talk about how vulnerable the Los Angeles Lakers’ defense was to begin the season, they’re now ranked ninth in defensive rating, just a few decimal points shy of making the top five.

With 11.3 contested shots per game, Anthony Davis is sixth in the league. For the Lakers, he’s flown all over the court, guarding the perimeter, mid-range jumpers, and rim attempts, where he’s tied for third in blocks per game. It’s evident that, once completely healed, the Purple and Gold should be a top-5 defensive team, with AD as their greatest ball-stopper.

Anthony Davis has an MCL sprain in his knee, which will keep him out for at least a month. His ailment, however, has no bearing on his position in this edition of our rankings.

Giannis Antetokounmpo (#3)

Giannis has been named to the NBA All-Defensive team four times and has earned one Defensive Player of the Year Award.

In 2021-2022, the Greek Freak is back to his old pranks.

Following Giannis’s hard work, the Milwaukee Bucks have improved to sixth in the NBA in defensive rating after a poor start. Antetokounmpo despises losing, which is a common theme among our top three defenders, and this drives him to go all out on the less glamorous end.

Even though Giannis is a two-time MVP, he continues to work on every defensive play, a mindset that he instills in his teammates. When one of the greatest players in the world is digging in and disregarding the aching in his legs at the conclusion of a close game, how can a guy like Bobby Portis or Grayson Allen not compete on D?

If you watch a Bucks game, you’ll see Giannis motivating his teammates by springing out to open shooters below the arc (he defends 4.9 three-pointers per game), breaking up pick and roll moves near the rim, or racing to the basket and grabbing a defensive rebound. With 10.3 contested shots per game, The Greek Freak ranks 16th in the league, demonstrating his game-to-game effort and ability to cover the whole floor as a defender.

In the end, Giannis may not be able to beat off Gobert or Green for the title of greatest defender in the league, but he should be a certainty to make another NBA All-Defensive team.

Draymond Green (#2)

The Golden State Warriors have a 100.5 defensive rating, almost three points better than the second-place Cleveland Cavaliers, making Draymond Green the greatest defender on the league’s most stingy club.

The numbers aren’t on Green’s side. According to Cleaning the Glass, with Draymond on the floor, the Warriors have given up +0.8 points per possession, putting him in the 55th percentile among big men. His defensive field goal % is sixth among among regular Warriors rotation players, while his defensive rating ranks 12th on his own team.

You have to toss the numbers out now and again.

What figure would you use to describe how he leads the Warriors’ defense? Or the swagger and passion he takes to the less glamorous end of the spectrum?

Advanced statistics can’t measure Draymond Green’s influence.

Andre Iguodala, Otto Porter Jr., Andrew Wiggins, and Stephen Curry, Green’s colleagues on defense, have been outstanding. Despite this, the former Michigan State player is the backbone of the Warriors’ top-ranked defense.

Draymond Green is the league’s most versatile player, outperforming great defenders like as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis, and Bam Adebayo. He has no difficulty shutting down an All-Star point guard beyond the three-point line before muscling a mammoth center out of his favored post-up area.

Green is perhaps the league’s most ferocious defender. When a player scores on Rudy Gobert, he hates it, but one gets the impression that when Draymond has a bad day on D, he keeps it with him for months, allowing it to burrow deep within him and fuel him to go a bit harder.

Green may easily win some silverware at the end of the year if the Warriors continue to outperform the rest of the NBA in team defense for the remainder of the season.

Rudy Gobert, No. 1

The Utah Jazz are now ranked eighth in the NBA in defensive rating, and one shudders to imagine where they would be if Rudy Gobert were to leave. The perimeter defenders around the Stifle Tower are uninteresting.

Here’s how it works:

Mike Conley is allowing his assignments to shoot 0.3 percent below average.

Jordan Clarkson’s assignments are shooting 1.3 percent higher than the national average.

Donovan Mitchell’s assignments are shooting 4.8 percent better than the industry average.

Rudy Gay’s assignments are shooting 6.5 percent better than the industry average.

Bojan Bogdanovic’s assignments are shooting 6.8% better than the national average.

With 18.4 field goal attempts per game, Gobert leads the league in defending field goal attempts, and he holds any player that enters his area to an amazing 40.6 percent, second among all centers (minimum 15 games played to clear out the noise).

The French Rejection makes more errors than any other player in the NBA, protecting the rim like a mother tiger keeping a horde of wolves at bay. When they dig in on defense, Donovan Mitchell, Jordan Clarkson, and Bojan Bogdanovic are outstanding on the offensive side of the ball, helping Utah develop a historically strong offense, yet they are beaten off the dribble or bullied on the perimeter. The sole difference between the Jazz being a top-10 defensive team and placing somewhere in the bottom-10 is Gobert’s ability to modify jumpers in the lane.

Gobert has appeared in each of Utah’s 27 games, which is significant, but his mindset is much more so. He is completely devoted to the less enjoyable end of the spectrum. When an opposition player scores on him, you’ll witness him slap his hands in frustration. When even the most gifted guards manage to make a layup in his domain, the Frenchman becomes enraged.

Gobert has the necessary defensive statistics and mentality. In 2021-2022, he was the league’s top defender.

Defense Remains Crucial

The NBA’s particular offensive weapons have gotten a lot of attention in their current incarnation. Even yet, in 2021-2022, the ancient saying “defense wins championships” resonates truer than ever.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are the lone exception, as nine of the top ten defensive teams in the NBA are presently in postseason contention. The top two three-point shooting teams in the East, the Charlotte Hornets and Atlanta Hawks, have failed to get stops and are on the outside looking in for a top-six spot.

Our top-ten defenders will definitely continue to give their all on the less enjoyable end of the field, assisting their teams in earning victories the hard way, and one of them will be named Defensive Player of the Year at the conclusion of the season.

The NBA’s 15 Greatest 3-Point Shooters: Stephen Curry Is The King Of The 3-Point Shot

Stephen Curry’s historic night mercifully overshadowed the floundering New York Knicks. The Warriors went on to win in a rout, with Curry finishing 8-9 from three and 30 points overall. Whether or not he broke LeBron James’ single-game scoring record will soon be academic.

The “who does steph curry play for” is a question that has been asked many times recently. Stephen Curry’s historic night mercifully overshadowed the floundering New York Knicks.

The New York Knicks may have been just as delighted as Curry after he hit 3-pointer number 2,974 in his career. That way, the Knicks won’t be the focus of attention if they lose again.

The real basketball contest took a backseat as Steph carved his name into the record books. It worked out wonderfully for the Knicks, who have watched their hot start dissipate and swiftly turn into a nightmare ahead of the holidays with yet another defeat.

In a triumph against the New York Knicks, Stephen Curry led the way.

Curry hit another three after the celebration finished and the game began. And then there was another. For good measure, here’s one more.

Curry scored 22 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 105-96 victory against the New York Knicks. New York had a one-point lead at halftime, but the third quarter saw them blasted 24-16.

Due to their failure to hit shots, the Knicks were unable to ruin Curry’s evening. Despite having just eight turnovers as a team, New York shot only 36.1 percent from the floor. With the exception of Julius Randle, who led the team with 31 points on 47.6% shooting, the remainder of the squad managed to make only 20 of 62 field-goal attempts.

With the victory, Golden State improved to a league-best 23-5 record. Meanwhile, New York has dropped to 12-16, a far cry from where it began the season.

The Knicks are on the decline.

The days of “Bing Bong” appear to have passed us by. With Christmas just ten days away, New York finds itself in 12th place in the East, wondering how things have gone so wrong so fast.

The Knicks opened 2021-22 with five victories in their first six games, after a 41-31 season. Over the following several weeks, the club managed to stay afloat, going through its first 20 games without losing more than two in a row. As a consequence, New York was 11-9 and seemed to be on the verge of returning to the playoffs.

The Knicks, on the other hand, have been one of the league’s weakest teams since November 30. New York has ended an eight-game losing run with a lone win against San Antonio. The Knicks have been outscored by 9.6 points in their defeats this season, and have been kept under 100 points four times.

New York’s offensive rating has dropped to 18th throughout the course of the season. Its defensive ranking is merely 23rd, which is a long cry from last year’s dominating squad. The Knicks are a shadow of the playoff club many anticipated them to be, no matter how you slice it.

Is a trade the best option for the Knicks?

*{padding:0;margin:0;overflow:hidden} html,bodyheight:100% img,spanposition:absolute;width:100% ;top:0;bottom:0;margin:auto;bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyhe spanheight:1.5em;text-align:center;font:48px/1.5 sans-serif;color:white;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow><span>▶</span>

With a record of 12-16, the Knicks plainly need to make a change if they want to save their season. With Tom Thibodeau’s position secure for the time being, the simplest solution could be to look into a trade.

Kemba Walker is one player whose days in New York may be numbered. The 31-year-old has struggled in the first year of his two-year, $17.9 million deal, and was recently demoted from the rotation. With the veteran occupying a valuable bench position, the Knicks may be willing to trade with him in exchange for something of worth.

Beginning December 15, Walker is one of five Knicks that may be moved. Evan Fournier, Alec Burks, Taj Gibson, and Nerlens Noel are the four additional players New York may now trade if it so desires.

Ben Simmons is always available if the Knicks want to go crazy. According to The Athletic, New York is one of the clubs interested in signing the unhappy point guard. Simmons is in the second year of a five-year, $177 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, but has yet to play this season.

The Knicks were exposed as a squad in serious need of a shake-up after their defeat to Curry and the Warriors on Tuesday. Something has to happen in New York, whether it’s changing the rotation, selling a veteran like Walker, or going for the fences in a trade for Simmons.

Basketball Reference provided all statistics, while Spotrac provided contract data.

For many people, the NFL is not just a game but an event. The games are communal events in which family members and friends gather to watch their favorite players battle it out for pride as well as recognition.

The “nfl covid protocol 2021” is a protocol that is used by the NFL to broadcast games. The NFL uses this protocol because it has better quality than other methods of broadcasting.

Last week marked the start of the NFL’s third COVID-19 epidemic. The first came during the 2020 season, when the league had to navigate a 17-week schedule without the aid of immunizations. The second was a war against the delta variety from Weeks 1 through 14 of the 2021 regular season, with policies meant to incentivise vaccination. And now, according to NFL Chief Medical Officer Dr. Allen Sills, the league and the NFL Players Association are “fighting a brand-new illness in some respects.”

The omicron variant entered the league towards the conclusion of Week 14, causing an extraordinary spike of over 150 positive cases in Week 15 and prompting the season’s first three schedule modifications. The second and third of those games will be played Tuesday night, and the league and union are hopeful that the rest of the season will be completed on time. Early examination of the omicron variant’s influence on the league, which revealed high transmission among vaccinated players but little to no symptoms for the majority, resulted in a rewrite of testing and return-to-play guidelines.

Will the modifications be effective? Is it true that the NFL prioritized games above the health of its players, coaches, and community? Let’s look at it more closely.

What were the conditions that brought this all about?

The NFL had a vaccination rate of 94 percent for players and almost 100 percent for football staff members going into the season. Those who had been vaccinated were checked once a week, whereas those who had not been immunized were tested daily. During the first three months of the season, 110 players and 187 staff members tested positive in six testing sessions between Sept. 5 to Nov. 27.

2 Related

The league discovered numerous positive cases caused by the omicron variant at the conclusion of Week 14. Under the old guidelines, vaccinated players were subjected to weekly testing on Mondays, and the findings on Dec. 13 were astounding. That day, a total of 37 players tested positive, and the pace continued. By the conclusion of the week, more players had tested positive than in the preceding 14 weeks combined, and comparable spikes were being reported in numerous big cities, including New York. Since Dec. 13, over 200 players have tested positive for COVID-19 throughout the league, with more than 150 on the COVID-19/reserve list as of Monday evening.

And all of this is due to the omicron variant?

According to the league, this is the case mostly but not solely. According to preliminary results from genetic sequence studies, last week’s rise was “overwhelmingly” omicron, according to Sills.

However, seasonality and declining vaccination immunity also had a role. The NFL recently performed a voluntary antibody testing of 527 employees, and those who had not gotten a booster injection showed strong symptoms of declining immunity. Since then, the league has demanded that all Tier 1 and Tier 2 workers, including coaches and other football personnel, get boosters by December 27. According to the league’s agreement with the NFLPA, players are urged to be vaccinated and boostered, but they are not forced to do so.

What else is the NFL doing to combat this uptick in player numbers?

Simply put, it has teamed up with the NFL Players Association to minimize vaccination testing and speed up the return-to-play procedure for those who have tested positive.

With such high infection rates, how does it make sense?

It’s a reasonable question. Let’s tackle each alteration one by one.

So, there you have it. How about some testing?

From the top, keep in mind that the NFL, NFLPA, and the rest of the public health community are attempting to examine omicron in real time amid a spike of unparalleled pace. No one can declare with confidence which method will be the most effective. All of them are informed assumptions.

As a result, the NFL and NFLPA have agreed to stop testing vaccinated players and coaches on a weekly basis and instead use a random cadence akin to drug testing. The new policy does not specify the number of people who will be tested each week, but it will include “a sample selection based on position group and staff cohorts,” as determined by the league’s health and safety office.

Furthermore, if a vaccinated athlete or staff member exhibits symptoms, he or she will be subjected to testing.

Here’s how the playoff bracket currently stands, as well as the possible outcomes. • Playoff picture and potential clinchers « • ESPN’s NFL Playoff Machine is interactive » • Football Power Index » | Standings

The new technique hasn’t needed a negative test since the end of last week. There are currently a number of unique combinations of single negative tests and cycle threshold (CT) readings that, in principle, may get a player back in the game as quickly as one day following a positive test.

Is it possible that it could travel that fast?

Unless it’s an asymptomatic test taken at the end of an illness, one day is a stretch. However, preliminary evidence suggests that this technique tweak may speed up the whole process, at least for certain people. Odell Beckham Jr. of the Los Angeles Rams was authorized to return four days following a positive test. Jalen Ramsey, a cornerback for the Los Angeles Rams, was cleared after six days. However, a week after testing positive, numerous players, including Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, were yet to return. Stefanski was unable to play in the Browns’ rescheduled game against the Raiders on Monday night.

Last week, a large number of teams received favorable results. Why were just three games rescheduled?

The NFL concentrated on outbreaks involving the Rams, Browns, and Washington Redskins. Of course, their opponents’ players, coaches, and supporters were not pleased with the accommodations. However, Sills said that the decision to postpone their three games was made for medical reasons rather than competitive ones. After the rescheduling, some players were able to test out of protocols, but the majority did not. The Browns, for example, started the game with 18 players on their COVID-19 list, including starter Baker Mayfield and backup Case Keenum, leaving Nick Mullens as the starting quarterback.

“Our goal is to make sure we feel confident that we understand the outbreaks that have happened in these teams,” Sills said, “and that we have our arms around transmission and that we can safely bring players, coaches, and staff out on the field.” After the league ordered them to do virtual practices and meetings, Sills said there was a duty to enable those teams to perform some on-field conditioning work before the game.

Shouldn’t they have been forced to give up?

No. If a game could not be rescheduled and the epidemic was caused by an unvaccinated player, the NFL notified clubs in July that forfeits were a possibility. None of these scenarios met both of these requirements.

So, what about the other intense protocols?

The NFL is requesting that clubs follow the new procedures at least through the first half of this week. They include, among other things, wearing masks in the team facility, attending virtual meetings whenever feasible, and dining separately. The league will reassess the strict measures as the season progresses, according to Sills.

Is everything going to work?

No one knows, is the only honest response. Despite the revised testing schedule, more NFL players (47) tested positive on Monday than the day before (37). The new guidelines seem to be reducing the number of persons who are sidelined and hastening the return of those who have been sidelined. However, there will be some added danger of undiscovered transmission within team facilities, as well as some variation in individual results. For less than two weeks, the omicron version has been in the NFL. It’s only natural that the procedures may change throughout time.

“It’s a crazy dynamic,” Jordan said from the players’ locker room before Wednesday night’s game. “You got guys here who have been playing for so long and then you’ve got me coming in, trying to steal their spot…I’m just trying to make it competitive.”

The “Michael Jordan might be an NBA executive, but the Bulls legend still acts like a player among his Hornets stars: ‘It’s a crazy dynamic.’” is an article that discusses Michael Jordan’s role as owner of the Charlotte Hornets. It talks about how he is able to act like a player among his players and how it has created a unique environment for the team. Read more in detail here: michael jordan owns what team.

Michael Jordan was perhaps the best NBA player to ever play for the Chicago Bulls, but he has not been a terrific executive for the Charlotte Hornets. Charlotte has been one of the weakest teams in the league throughout Jordan’s stint as governor, either failing to reach the playoffs or falling in the first round.

However, it looks that MJ has one outstanding skill as a CEO that might considerably aid his company’s possible ascent to the top. Jordan’s player, Kelly Oubre Jr., claims that His Airness treats the Hornets’ players like peers rather than bosses.

The Charlotte Hornets, led by Michael Jordan, have been chronic losers.

Michael Jordan purchased the Hornets (formerly known as the Bobcats) in 2010, and although they had little success before he took them, they have somehow managed to accomplish less under MJ.

Charlotte has only been existed since 1988-89, yet between that season and 2008-09, they reached the playoffs seven times. However, with the former Bulls great in charge, the team has only made three playoff visits, all of which have ended in first-round losses.

The 2020-21 season, on the other hand, was one of their most promising in years. They improved from 23-42 to 33-39 and qualified for the NBA playoffs. LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier were key to their success, and they’ve subsequently helped MJ feel better about the team’s path. The Hornets are 16-16 so far this season, and not only has Ball improved, but Miles Bridges has also made significant strides.

So maybe, just maybe, Jordan’s team has a promising future ahead of them. And if that’s the case, his favorable attribute might be rather useful.

MJ respects his Hornets teammates as equals.

Kelly Oubre Jr. is off to a good start in his debut season with the Hornets. He’s averaging 16.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, and he’s shooting 45.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from 3-point range, all career highs (37.7 percent ).

Oubre recently spoke with the Arizona Republic on what it’s like to play for one of the best players of all time.

“It’s a strange dynamic because, in my view, that’s the finest player to ever play basketball,” he remarked. “It’s insane that he’s my supervisor and my owner at the same time….” He’s the greatest competitor of all time, so anytime he’s there, he simply pushes me, as well as the rest of the team. But, more importantly, he has that ‘Come on, dude, you know better than that s***’ attitude. But, rather than speaking to you as a boss or an owner, he speaks to you as a player, a peer. So that’s one thing I like about him, particularly given his size and personality.”

Jordan’s standing as one of the NBA’s all-time greats might cause him to believe he’s too good for his teammates and that he doesn’t need to treat them like his peers, as Oubre said. However, it seems that he does the exact opposite, which might be critical for the organization’s future success.

Michael Jordan’s excellent attributes might be critical to the Hornets’ long-term success.

*{padding:0;margin:0;overflow:hidden} html,bodyheight:100% img,spanposition:absolute;width:100% ;top:0;bottom:0;margin:auto;bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyhe spanheight:1.5em;text-align:center;font:48px/1.5 sans-serif;color:white;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow><span>▶</span>

Michael Jordan understands what it’s like to have a strained relationship with a team’s front office. His feuds with former Chicago Bulls general manager Jerry Krause were well-documented throughout his playing days. As a result, he seems to realize that as long as he treats his stars with respect, they are likely to want to remain in Charlotte.
