Jasmine Jordan was just a few months old when her father won the first two of his six NBA championships. He was Dad to her. To everyone else, he was the NBA’s All-Time Greatest Player. She was perplexed as to why her father was causing such a stir, so she resorted to Google for answers.
“I didn’t really grasp what was happening when I was a youngster, and growing up throughout the period, because I was so little, and it just didn’t really register with me until I grew older,” Jasmine told Sports Illustrated in 2020. “It makes me giggle since I once Googled my father to figure it out.” I was thinking to myself, “Why is everyone so fascinated with you?” You’re just a dad, you’re not that amazing.” But, lo and behold, he was somewhat of a celebrity. As a result, it’s been a really eye-opening experience.”
She acknowledged to learning a lot more about her father after seeing The Last Dance, a docuseries about him, in an interview with The Associated Press shortly after it aired. She recognized parallels between Michael Jordan the athlete and Michael Jordan the parent, she claimed.
“I know his enthusiasm for the game is unmatched,” she told the Associated Press. “His vigor is unrivaled. So I’m like, “Oh, yeah, that’s Dad” when he’s going after Steve Kerr or checking Scottie (Pippen) and trying to bring that fire and tenacity out of them. He’ll do it to me just so I can score an A on a few of tests. (laughs) And I’m just trying to get through school; I’m not even competing in tournaments. So that’s unquestionably him.”
Jasmine Jordan admires her father but refuses to follow in his footsteps.
Jasmine Jordan-Christmas remarked on a recent edition of More Than a Name that she understands the similarities between herself and her father are inescapable, but she has gone on to establish a name for herself. Her father’s work ethic has undoubtedly been handed down to her via his basketball career and business interests.
“I like working,” she remarked in the TOGETXER series, which was created by female athletes Alex Morgan, Chloe Kim, Simone Manuel, and Sue Bird. “It gives me great pleasure to know that at the end of the day, my kid gets to watch me get up and go after it rather than simply staying at home riding my father’s coattails.”
“He instilled in me the values of hard work and dedication, and that was all I saw. It’s not something you can avoid. You know what I mean? My family has made certain that you will work hard. You’ll figure it out, and you’ll go after it. You’re going to have to create that money on your own.”
Jordan-Christmas works for the Jordan Brand and Nike as a sports marketing field representative. She is Jordan Brand’s first and only female field rep in sports marketing.
Jordan-Christmas discusses what she thinks her legacy will be.
Jordan-Christmas believes that in order to be successful, she must have a sense of balance. She need the ideal balance of her hard work at work and her time with her kid at home.
“It’s all about balance,” she remarked. “Understanding that you must ensure that you are not just doing what you need to do at work, but also what you need to do as a parent.” Whatever the case may be, you must check in.
“Knowing that, although my career, projects, and other obligations are important to me, being a mother comes first.”
“Whatever happens, my legacy will be that I’m an excellent mother.” I’m going to start with that since my kid means the world to me. He’s at the top of my priority list. I want to make sure that no matter what, if you speak to someone who knows Jasmine, the first thing they say about her is that she’s a great mother.”
She’s also pleased with herself for being able to separate herself from being MJ’s daughter and become her own person.
“Within the company, I’ve been able to carve out my path and really build a reputation for myself,” she added.
